We are calling on the House of Commons to conduct an inquiry into the violation of charter-protected rights in Alberta.

The violation of charter-protected rights anywhere should concern Canadians everywhere. 

In Alberta, transgender youth have had their charter-protected rights and freedoms stripped away by a callous and cruel provincial government. Trans kids now go to school with fewer rights than their classmates. Medically necessary healthcare for transgender youth has been banned - against the recommendation of Albertan physicians, and trans women and girls are now barred from participating in sport.  

At the same time and under the same agenda, stigma and hatred towards transgender people is rising. Parents are scared for their kids safety and future in a province they love, but whose government has betrayed their families. 

In American states with anti-trans laws, suicide attempts among trans youth rose by up to 72%. Danielle Smith is playing with fire - but it's trans kids who are getting burned.

Youth are suffering. Families are struggling.  Their stories deserve to be heard. Premier Danielle Smith won't listen, but the House of Commons can.

That's why we are calling on the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights to conduct an inquiry (formally referred to as a study) on the violation of charter-protected rights in Alberta. 

Such an inquiry will bring forward the voices of trans youth, their parents and relevant experts to help Canadians and the House of Commons understand the harm anti-trans policies are causing in Alberta.
