We're Hiring: Part-Time Alberta Queer Organizer!

To support the Society of Queer Momentum’s advocacy efforts, we are hiring a part-time organizer in Alberta.

This organizer will support local advocacy efforts alongside partner organizations and peer activists across the province, with a focus on building support for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights and opposing anti-2SLGBTQIA+ laws, policies and political platforms.

Preference will be given to trans/gender diverse individuals; Black, Indigenous and racialized queer and trans community members are encouraged to apply.

About the Position:

 Part-time position – $30 an hour for 30 hours a month (approximately one day a week)

 12-month contract with possibility of renewal

 3-month probation period

Roles and Responsibilities:

 Support the expansion of provincial 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy infrastructure and
coordination, inclusive of building capacity among local advocates and supporting
effective grassroots mobilization efforts.

 Collaborate with Alberta progressive, labour and allied organizations to build a united
response to Danielle Smith and the United Conservative Party and shift public opinion
on the proposed anti-trans policies.

 Support the Society of Queer Momentum in planning engagement in the next federal
election, inclusive of bringing a lens grounded in the Alberta context, and support the
expansion of Momentum networks to tap Alberta advocates into federal election efforts.
Recommended Assets and Experiences.

 Experience in political organizing and advocacy, inclusive of mobilizing activists,
engaging with elected officials, representing organizations in the media and coordinating
volunteers.

 Established relationships with Albera 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations and broader
progressive organizations and activist networks, inclusive of familiarity with
2SLGBTQIA+ influencers and allied stakeholders.

Introducing our micro-grant recipients

In January, we launched a micro-grant program to help power-up grassroots advocacy and community building in Alberta, as part of our response to Premier Danielle Smith’s attack on the freedom, rights and healthcare access of transgender youth and their families. We received dozens of applications, reflecting the commitment, strength and creativity of 2SLGBTQIA+ advocates and allies across Alberta.

We are now thrilled to introduce you to the 12 projects we’re funding across the province.

Each group has it's own vision and unique flavour. Some are fully focused on activism and political advocacy, while others are focused on building inclusive spaces and fostering community care. The range of initiatives reflects something our communities have long known: it takes a village to build and sustain a movement. It takes protesting in the streets, and community spaces that foster queer joy and healing.

We're proud to play our part in sustaining vital advocacy and community building in Alberta.

Queer Momentum Statement on Mass Shooting in Tumbler Ridge, BC

Like all Canadians, we were shocked to learn of the horrific shooting in Tumbler Ridge. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all affected by this tragedy.

Queer Momentum joins Canadians from coast to coast to coast in condemning this appalling violence, which has no place in our schools or anywhere else in Canada.

We are mindful that news cycles can create fear and vulnerability. We reject any attempt to tie an entire community to the actions of one individual.

Our focus remains on the victims, their families and the community. We stand ready to assist our neighbours in Tumbler Ridge however we can.
