130 queer, trans, and allied organizations across Canada are standing together to call on the Government of Canada to renew and strengthen the Federal 2SLGBTQIA+ Action Plan.
We are in an era of global backlash against 2SLGBTQIA+ rights — and Canada is not an exception. Now is the time for Canada to lead: to speak up and stand up for 2SLGBTQIA+ equality at home and abroad.
Since 2022, the Federal 2SLGBTQIA+ Action Plan has been the Government of Canada’s central mechanism to advance equality and address the discrimination faced by 2SLGBTQIA+ people. It has strengthened community organizations and invested in hundreds of projects across the country.
But it's set to expire soon.
And in this political moment, we know our issues are being pushed aside and deprioritized — unless we do something about it. We can’t afford to have 2SLGBTQIA+ issues forgotten — especially not when the stakes are so high.
That’s why today, over 100 queer, trans, and allied organizations are calling on the Government of Canada to renew and expand the Action Plan. We are urging the Government of Canada to ensure the next iteration of the Action Plan:
-
Increases funding for the 2SLGBTQI+ Capacity Building and Project Funds
-
Expands the whole-of-government approach
-
Engages provinces and territories within the Action Plan
-
Invests in the economic power and potential of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities
-
Grows Canada's human rights leadership on the global stage
Through a renewed Action Plan, the Government of Canada can show its sustained commitment and take real steps to build a more free, equal, and inclusive Canada — for everyone.
