We’re Hiring: Manager, Campaigns and Communications

Queer Momentum is hiring a full time Manager of Campaigns and Communications for an 11-month contract with possibility of renewal. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Campaigns and Communications shall supervise campaign-related staff members, oversee and implement organizational communications strategies and lead development and implementation of Momentum campaigns. The individual in this position will play a pivotal role coordinating 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy in the next federal election.

  • Start Date: December 1st, 2024 (open to negotiation)
  • Salary: $75,000
  • Full time (30 hours/week, 4 day work week)
  • Remote (work from home) with occasional optional travel

Key responsibilities include:

  • Alongside the Executive Director, leading development and implementation of Momentum campaigns and communications strategies with a focus on the upcoming federal election.
  • Supporting Momentum’s growing team of regional organizers.
  • Working with partner organizations to support local and regional campaign development through Momentum’s advocacy infrastructure.
  • Undertaking Rapid Response campaigns to address and act upon emerging issues.
  • Extensive experience developing innovative and creative social media campaigns, including video productions and graphic design skills, is considered an asset

What does our ideal candidate look like? Our ideal candidate: 

  • Has significant (5+ years) experience as a communications and campaign professional within community organizations, social justice advocacy, the labour movement and/or electoral politics. 
  • Has excellent political judgement, demonstrated ability to provide political analysis and strategic advice.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced work environment supported by a small team of passionate colleagues and partners.
  • Has developed and implemented organizational communications strategies, including through social media and nation builder. 
  • Is a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, with particular consideration for trans and racialized 2SLGBTQIA+ applicants.
  • Given the centrality of this role and the close collaboration required with Momentum's executive director, strong preference will be given to an individual based in Ottawa.

This includes the development of a new visual identity, refined messaging framework, and a suite of practical tools and assets to support both day-to-day communications and high-impact advocacy work.

This work is being undertaken alongside the launch of a new strategic plan. As Momentum enters its third year, the organization is experiencing rapid growth and increased national visibility. This rebrand is intended to define its next phase of development and position Momentum clearly as Canada’s leading 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy organization.

The selected partner will be expected to deliver a cohesive and adaptable brand system that reflects the organization’s role in shaping public discourse and mobilizing communities. The Society of Queer Momentum is seeking a full-time Communications Specialist to help lead the organization’s communications, campaigns, and public profile. This is a one-year contract, with anticipated start date in early June 2026

This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) with a $70,000 salary and two weeks (10 days) vacation.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Specialist will play a central role in shaping how Momentum communicates with supporters, partners, media, and the broader public. This role is responsible for delivering strong, strategic, and high-quality communications that advance advocacy goals, support organizing and campaign work, strengthen Momentum’s brand, and help grow the organization’s reach and impact across Canada.

This position is suited to someone who is politically aware, strategically minded, highly organized, and deeply committed to 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and issues. The successful candidate will bring strong judgment, excellent writing and editing skills, and the ability to produce high-quality work in a fast-moving environment.
