At Momentum, we're excited to introduce our Rural, Remote and Northern Queer Advocacy Leadership Program, specially designed to empower 2SLGBTQ+ folks in rural, remote, and northern communities by building on skills, strengthening relationships, and creating space for knowledge sharing. We are grateful to the Canadian Women’s Foundation for providing the funding to make this program possible, and to our charitable partner, the Community-Based Research Centre, for supporting program administration.

About the Society of Queer Momentum

The Society of Queer Momentum is a national 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy organization mandated to accelerate social and gender justice for 2SLGBTQIA+ people. We dream of a more free, equal and socially just future for everyone in Canada. Through campaigns, advocacy training and coalition-building, we mobilize 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and allies to confront hate and advance rainbow equality. About the Program:

This program was designed to help strengthen relationships, build skills and enhance collaboration within and across rural, remote and northern 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy groups and individuals. Through 6 virtual sessions, we will support program participants to build their queer advocacy leadership skills and connect
with their peer advocates in rural, remote and northern communities.

Each of our 6 sessions will feature relationship building and knowledge sharing opportunities for 45 minutes, followed by a 75-minute training session. While we have identified the topics below as the focus of the training session components, these will be ratified/confirmed based on input from program
participants.

Who is this program for?

This program is for anyone based in a rural, remote or northern community looking to grow their 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy capacity and connect with other advocates/organizers, with priority for Black, Indigenous and Racialized 2SLGBTQIA+ advocates.

Honoraria

Recognizing that 2SLGBTQIA+ advocates often advocate in unpaid roles and volunteer positions, and that lack of compensation presents a barrier for many members of our communities, our program includes a $30/hr honorarium. We have budgeted to offer compensation to 30 program participants. We encourage
individuals to accept the honorarium but if you are in a financial position where you are able to waive your honoraria, we welcome you to do so. In doing so, you allow us to extend participation to additional advocates for whom lack of compensation may be a barrier. You will be asked if you would like to accept
or waive honoraria in the application form below. Of note: we will not disclose who has selected to receive, or not receive, honoraria. Your decision will not factor into selection criteria, nor will we ask for any rationale for those who DO opt to receive compensation.

Application Process and Form

The application deadline is June 7 th , 2024 at midnight Eastern Standard Time. All applicants will be notified if they have – or have not – been selected by June 12 th , 2024. Selection will be made by the Society of Queer Momentum staff team, and will consider regional diversity, representation of Black, Indigenous and Racialized individuals, and other identity/experience factors asked about in the application form.

Momentum is seeking proposals from qualified communications and design firms or independent practitioners to lead a comprehensive rebrand. This includes the development of a new visual identity, refined messaging framework, and a suite of practical tools and assets to support both day-to-day communications and high-impact advocacy work.

This work is being undertaken alongside the launch of a new strategic plan. As Momentum enters its third year, the organization is experiencing rapid growth and increased national visibility. This rebrand is intended to define its next phase of development and position Momentum clearly as Canada’s leading 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy organization.

The selected partner will be expected to deliver a cohesive and adaptable brand system that reflects the organization’s role in shaping public discourse and mobilizing communities. We're Hiring: Communications Specialist

The Society of Queer Momentum is seeking a full-time Communications Specialist to help lead the organization’s communications, campaigns, and public profile. This is a one-year contract, with anticipated start date in early June 2026

This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) with a $70,000 salary and two weeks (10 days) vacation.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Specialist will play a central role in shaping how Momentum communicates with supporters, partners, media, and the broader public. This role is responsible for delivering strong, strategic, and high-quality communications that advance advocacy goals, support organizing and campaign work, strengthen Momentum’s brand, and help grow the organization’s reach and impact across Canada.

This position is suited to someone who is politically aware, strategically minded, highly organized, and deeply committed to 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and issues. The successful candidate will bring strong judgment, excellent writing and editing skills, and the ability to produce high-quality work in a fast-moving environment.
